Perimenopause is an important stage in the life of a woman, and yet it is one that so many have never even been told exists! We all have heard about menopause- which is when a woman’s period ends - and all its accompanying symptoms. But what is perimenopause?
Perimenopause is the 2-15 years BEFORE menopause. It is during this time that the body begins to produce gradually less of the hormones progesterone and estrogen in preparation for a nearly complete halt at the time of menopause. So basically it is all the behind-the-scenes prep work that your body is doing! Perimenopause also comes with its own set of symptoms that many women have said feels like a switch flipped one day in their bodies.
Some Common Symptoms of Perimenopause:
- Mood Swings
- Skipped Ovulation
- Heavy and/or Irregular Periods
- Feeling Tired
- Forgetfulness
- Discomfort During Sex
- Digestive Disturbances
- Stubborn or New Weight Around the Middle
Now not all women experience perimenopause in this way, for some they barely notice it at all, while for others it can be significantly more debilitating.
There are so many factors that play into why different women have different experiences, but the good news is that even if you are in the midst of a rough perimenopause, there are some things you can do to bring some balance to your body and your life.
For the whole month of February we are going to be talking about how to balance hormones during this transition time and we will be wrapping it all up with an info packed workshop that I am seriously soooo excited about!
